Supermarket giants Sainsbury’s have begun selling same-sex Valentine’s cards for the first time ever.

Previously, same-sex couples had to improvise with generic Valentine’s cards, or source a more unique card online, but Sainsbury’s is about to change that.

This year, the supermarket have released a range of cards featuring simple designs featuring illustrations of a woman and a woman, and a man and a man with the caption ‘You + Me’.

James Brown, director of commercial at Sainsbury’s commented on the news: “Choosing the perfect Valentine’s Day card is a personal and sentimental experience, which is why we’re pleased to offer new same-sex cards and give all of our love-stricken customers the ability to choose the card that’s right for them.”

Last year, Sainsbury’s championed same-sex couples when featuring a gay couple in their Christmas advert for the second time in a row.

The same-sex Valentine’s cards will be stocked at nearly 500 stores across the UK and start at £1.99.
