Birmingham LGBT has announced it’s received support for SHOUT Festival from Arts Council England.

The annual Queer Arts and culture event will join Art Council England’s National Portfolio 2018 to 2022.
Becoming a National Portfolio organisation will allow SHOUT to take a significant step forward in delivering the festival, and will assist the development of emerging artists, commission new artistic work, and bring high quality queer art to the city.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England said "We're delighted to be welcoming Birmingham LGBT into the portfolio for the next four years. It'll be great to see them provide LGBT arts in the heart of Birmingham with the SHOUT Festival and reflect the stories and voices of local people."

Making its debut in 2009, SHOUT Festival began its life as a direct response to the lack of representation for of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer in Birmingham’s arts venues. 8 years of growth and development means the festival now works with an increasing number of partners and artists explore queer identities.

The future’s bright

SHOUT Festival producer Adam Carver is looking forward to the next stage in the festival’s development, saying: “ we will solidify our commitment to furthering Queer Arts and Culture in the region. Our activity will focus on celebrating queer identity in all its intersections, creating new opportunities for Queer Artists in the midlands, and platforming the voices and experiences people in Birmingham and the wider midlands to audiences locally, nationally, and internationally.”

The full SHOUT Festival programme will be announced later this year. For more information about the festival, its previous work, and upcoming projects, can be found at
